Kanda Bhaji | Onion Pakora | Pyaz Ke Pakode

Kanda bhaji is a Maharashtrian recipe of fried onion fritters. It is also known as onion pakoda and khekda bhaji. Onion pakora and potato pakora are famous street food in Mumbai.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Onion [large ]
  • 2 teaspoons Red chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Carom seeds
  • 5 tablespoons Gram flour
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour
  • pinch of baking soda
  • oil for frying

Instructions
 

  • Take a large onion. Slice it vertically.
  • Add 2 teaspoons of red chili powder, ¼th teaspoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of carom seeds and salt to taste.
  • Mix it well with help of a spoon.
  • Add 5 tablespoons of gram flour and 2 tablespoons of rice flour in it.
  • Mix it well. Add water in small parts and make the mixture for pakodas.
  • Heat oil in a kadhai for deep frying the pakoras.
  • Add a pinch of baking soda in a pakoras mixture before frying pakoras and mix it well.
  • Now drop medium-sized pakoras in oil with help of a spoon. Keep flame low while dropping pakodas in oil.
  • Fry the pakodas on a medium flame until they become crispy and golden from both sides.
  • Serve hot pakodas with tea or tomato sauce.
