Green chili thecha recipe| Hirvi mirchi thecha: It is an easy and tasty Maharashtrian side dish. Thecha is prepared by grinding roasted peanuts, garlic cloves and roasted green chilies. Maharashtrian thecha is served with hot chapati or bhakri by mixing with a little oil in it. It is served as a side dish with an everyday meal. Green chili peanut thecha is a Maharashtrian side dish, which is mostly prepared in bulk and use as per requirement.

How to choose green chilies for the green chili peanut thecha recipe:

For thecha recipe, green chilies should not be too spicy. Thin and small green chilies are spicy ones, choose long and little thick green chilies for this recipe. Chilies which are pale green in a color are less spicy.

Serving ideas:

Green chili thecha is mostly served by adding little oil to it. We can have it with chapati or any bhakri. While making any green curry, we can add thecha in tadka of that curry. Thecha can be served with methi paratha, cabbage paratha or any paratha. We can have thecha with bread or any thalipeeth. 

How to store:

Store thecha in an air-tight container and keep it in a refrigerator. We can make this thecha on prior in our free time, and store it for 1-2 weeks.

Ingredients
  

  • ½ cup peanuts
  • 6 large garlic cloves
  • 12- 15 green chilies [less spicy]
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Coriander [handful]
  • Salt to taste

Instructions
 

  • Heat a pan, dry roast peanuts on medium flame by stirring occasionally until brown spots appear on peanuts.
  • Chop green chilies in 2-3 parts. Add 1 tablespoon oil to the pan, then add chopped chilies to it, roast them on a medium flame for 3-4 minutes.
  • Then add garlic cloves to a pan and roast for 1 minute with chilies.
  • Turn off the flame and transfer roasted green chilies and garlic cloves to the plate. Let it cool for some time.
  • Add roasted peanuts, roasted green chilies and garlic, cumin seeds, a handful of coriander and salt to taste in a grinder jar.
  • Grind above ingredients 2- 3 times in a coarse paste. Green chili thecha is ready.
  • Transfer it to an air-tight container and store it in a refrigerator. Serve it with chapati or bhakri. We can also serve it with methi paratha or cabbage paratha.

How to make mirchi thecha | How to make green chilli thecha:

  1. Heat a pan, dry roast peanuts on medium flame by stirring occasionally until brown spots appear on peanuts. Transfer them in a bowl.

2. Chop green chilies in 2-3 parts. Add 1 tablespoon oil to the pan, then add chopped chilies to it, roast them on a medium flame for 3-4 minutes.

3. Then add garlic cloves to a pan and roast for 1 minute with chilies.

4. Turn off the flame and transfer roasted green chilies and garlic cloves to the plate. Let it cool for some time.

Tips and variations of green chili thecha :

  1. While roasting peanuts and green chilies, use a broad pan to uniform heat. 
  2. Store thecha in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.
  3. We can make thecha prior and store it for 2 weeks.
  4. I used less spicy green chilies for this recipe of green chilli thecha [refer how to choose green chilies section].
  5. If thecha recipe turns too spicy for you, then make a pitha cha thecha[gram flour thecha] from it. It is a very tasty and good variation for the green chili thecha recipe.
  6. Grind ingredients at least 2 times while making thecha by combining them with help of a spoon.

Pitha cha thecha [Gram flour thecha]:

  1. Heat a pan, add 2 tablespoons of oil and green chili thecha to it. 
  2. Saute for 2-3 minutes on medium flame, then add 3-4 tablespoon of gram flour to it and mix it well.
  3. Roast it until gram flour turns light brown and a little crunchy.
  4. Let it cool. Transfer it to an air-tight container and store it in a refrigerator.
  5. While serving mix little oil in it.
