Kanda bhaji is a Maharashtrian recipe of fried onion fritters. It is also known as onion pakoda and khekda bhaji. Onion pakora and potato pakora are famous street food in Mumbai. In Mumbai, we get hot vada pav and bhaji pav easily.
Kanda bhaji is an onion fritter made up of an onion and gram flour mixture. Adding little rice flour to it makes pakoda very crispy. some spices are added in a mixture of onion pakoda. This is deep-fried snack.
Kanda or batata bhaji is a very famous snack in the monsoon. As the monsoon starts, we get tempting smells of pakoda from Indian homes. Hot tea with hot and crispy pakodas during the monsoon is a heavenly combination. Homemade easy, quick and crispy pakoras are very tasty.
Kanda Bhaji | Onion Pakora | Pyaz Ke Pakode
Ingredients
- 1 Onion [large ]
- 2 teaspoons Red chili powder
- ¼ teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon Carom seeds
- 5 tablespoons Gram flour
- 2 tablespoons rice flour
- pinch of baking soda
- oil for frying
Instructions
- Take a large onion. Slice it vertically.
- Add 2 teaspoons of red chili powder, ¼th teaspoon of turmeric, 1 teaspoon of carom seeds and salt to taste.
- Mix it well with help of a spoon.
- Add 5 tablespoons of gram flour and 2 tablespoons of rice flour in it.
- Mix it well. Add water in small parts and make the mixture for pakodas.
- Heat oil in a kadhai for deep frying the pakoras.
- Add a pinch of baking soda in a pakoras mixture before frying pakoras and mix it well.
- Now drop medium-sized pakoras in oil with help of a spoon. Keep flame low while dropping pakodas in oil.
- Fry the pakodas on a medium flame until they become crispy and golden from both sides.
- Serve hot pakodas with tea or tomato sauce.
