Moong Dal Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup moong dal
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 green chili
- 4-5 curry leaves
- 4-5 garlic cloves
- 1 tomato
- 1½ teaspoon red chili powder
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
- handful of coriander leaves
- 2-3 tablespoons oil
- salt to taste
Instructions
- Wash moong dal 2-3 times and soak in 2 cups of water for 15 minutes.
- Heat the oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, finely chopped garlic cloves, chopped green chili and curry leaves to it. And saute it for a minute.
- Add chopped tomato and salt to taste into it. Mix well and cook until the tomato becomes mushy.
- Now, add 1&1/2 teaspoon of red chili powder and 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder to it. saute it for a minute.
- Pour the soaked dal with water into the pan. Also, add 2 cups of water to adjust the consistency. Moong dal soaks water so add a little extra water while boiling. I used 4 cups of water for 1 cup of moong dal.
- Now, add finely chopped coriander and cook it for 10-12 minutes. You can add water if the consistency of moong dal curry is too thick. If you add water in the last step, make sure to cook it again for 5-7 minutes.
- Serve hot moong dal curry with soft roti and jeera rice.
