Pav bhaji is one of the famous dishes from Mumbai street food. Pav bhaji is prepared with boiled vegetables mashed in the spices. To make pav bhaji, we use different boiled vegetables. Mash them and transfer them into spicy onion-tomato masala. For serving masala pav with bhaji, we have to apply butter and pav bhaji masala to the pav and roast it on the pan.
We can make pav bhaji in a pressure cooker as well. To make it in a cooker, we have to sauté onion and tomato first with spices. Then we have to add vegetables and cook them. Lastly, mash the cooked vegetables. But to make Mumbai street-style pav bhaji, always boil and mash the vegetables prior. While serving add little butter on bhaji.

Pav Bhaji Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 potatoes
- 3/4 cup peas
- 1 cup cauliflower
- 1 carrot [medium-sized]
- 1 large capsicum
- 1 tablespoon crushed garlic
- 2 onions
- 1 tomato
- 2 teaspoons red chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 4 teaspoons pav bhaji masala
- 1 tablespoon kasuri methi
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Handful coriander leaves
- Salt to taste
Instructions
Boiling vegetables:
- Heat 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker. Add 2 chopped potatoes, 3/4 cup of peas, 1 cup of cauliflower, 1 medium-sized carrot and 1 large capsicum to it.
- Close the lid and take 3 whistles on high flame. Open the lid, when steam comes out automatically.
- Now, mash the boiled vegetables using a masher or with the ladle. Keep it aside.
Making pav bhaji:
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a kadai. Add 2 tablespoons of butter to it. Adding butter to oil prevents the butter from burning. Now add 1 tablespoon of crushed garlic and 2 finely chopped onions to it.
- Sauté it until the onion becomes translucent. Then add a chopped tomato to it. Mix and cook it until the tomato becomes mushy.
- Now, add 2 teaspoons of red chili powder, 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric powder, 3 teaspoons of pav bhaji masala and 1 tablespoon of kasuri methi to it. Adjust the spices according to your taste.
- Mix it well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Now, add mashed vegetables to it. Also, add salt and mix it well.
- Lastly add chopped fresh coriander leaves. Cook it for 4-5 minutes. Our bhaji is ready
Making masala pav for pav bhaji;
- Cut the pav horizontally and open it. Apply softened butter to it and sprinkle pav-bhaji masala on it. You can make it prior and roast them while serving.
- Heat the pan and transfer the pav to it. Roast them from both sides.
- Serve Mumbai street style pav bhaji with hot masala pav. Add a tablespoon of butter to bhaji while serving.
How To Make Mumbai Street Style Pav Bhaji Recipe At Home:
